Our STory

Long before plant-based dining became a culinary trend, it was simply a way of life for chef and restaurateur Folami Geter. Born and raised vegetarian—and now a 25 year vegan—she has lived her entire life never having tasted meat.

When Folami's father opened Lamb's Bread Vegan Cafe in Columbia, South Carolina, in 2005, it stood as one of the region's first 100% plant-based restaurants. In 2014, Folami purchased Lamb's Bread from her father, beginning a journey to transform the pioneering establishment into something uniquely her own. By 2018, she was ready to fully realize her vision.

That year, Folami rebranded as A Peace of Soul Vegan Kitchen and began extensive renovations to create a space that matched her culinary ambitions.

During renovations, rather than pause operations, she took her vision on the road, purchasing a food truck to journey to vegan festivals and food events across the Southeast. Through social media, she built a community of over 25,000 devoted followers who eagerly tracked the food truck's locations and daily menu offerings, spreading the good news of vegan soul food far beyond Columbia's borders.

By the time our newly renovated brick-and-mortar location reopened in February 2020, just two weeks later, the global pandemic forced us to adapt, and quickly. We transformed into a carryout-only operation, proving that neither our spirit nor our flavors could be diminished by circumstance.

Today, A Peace of Soul Vegan Kitchen continues to serve our community in multiple ways. Beyond our daily menu of soul-satisfying comfort food—featuring favorites like our BBQ 'spareribs' with collard greens and mac and 'cheese'—we offer a convenient three-day meal prep service as well as group catering. Our food truck remains available for special events, bringing our unique flavors directly to celebrations throughout the area.

The kitchen also truly remains a family affair. Folami's 22-year-old son, raised vegan like his mother, is learning the business from the ground up, while her nieces serve as sous chefs. The team feels more like family than staff, creating an environment where love and dedication shape every dish.

Our dedication to excellence hasn't gone unnoticed. We've been recognized by Food Network as one of the top 20 Vegan Restaurants Coast-to-Coast, and we've been consistently acclaimed in our local Free Times Best of Columbia. But what truly matters to us is our impact on the community—showing people that plant-based eating can be both comforting and revolutionary.

Looking ahead, we remain committed to the values that have guided us from the beginning: compassion, community, and uncompromising flavor. The gratitude we feel each day for doing what we love shows in every dish we serve. Whether you're vegan, vegetarian, or simply curious, join us for a taste of authentic Southern comfort food—crafted from generations of plant-based tradition and served with genuine Southern hospitality.
